Weekend Away

Charlotte had her first parent-free weekend. Baka came to stay with her, while Matt and I headed for Rockport, MA. It is a small fishing town near Gloucester (think Perfect Storm). We left Friday evening and returned late this morning. Saturday we had a leisurely brunch overlooking the harbor in Rockport (Matt had a crab and avocado fritatta). Then we poked around Rockport for a while, checking out the little shops and the sights.

The harbor - the red building is called Motif #1. I guess it was recently featured in the movie The Proposal, but we haven't seen the movie.

Mid-afternoon, we drove up to Halibut Point State Park. Where we climbed around on the rocky coastline,

And walked around a quarry.

After the park, we returned to Rockport for an early dinner at the Roy Moore Lobster Co. Matt had a Lobster Roll that made a lasting impression. We made a quick drive down to Gloucester to see the Fishermen's memorial and drive past all the big commercial fishing boats. By then it was dark and we headed back to our hotel for the night. But Matt was still thinking about that Lobster Roll and ended up going back to Roy Moore's for another one by takeout. This morning, we woke to a cold, rainy day and so we headed straight for home.

It was a busy Saturday, but we enjoyed it, and kept telling each other what we thought Charlotte would say if she'd been there (wow big boat! little crab! windy day! oooohhhh water! strawbaby yum!!) Of course, when we walked back in the door this morning, she told us "No! Bye-bye!" (Charlotte-speak for Get Lost!) and clung to Baka. Looks like we missed her significantly more than she missed us.
