Iceland - lots of pics!

We're back, we made it. What an amazing place! There are lots of pics here, and I will try to upload them all onto shutterfly within the next week in case anyone wants to see even more...

The boys, standing in front of the bay at Reykjavik:

Matt and I went to the Blue Lagoon Thursday evening - it was like a big, warm swimming pool, very nice, even in near freezing temperatures!

Friday we drove the Golden Circle - which took us first to Thingvellir - a park where the tectonic plates of North America and Europe are pulling away from each other, creating a wide valley - the next two pictures are from our walk within that valley:

The second stop of the Golden Circle was Geysir - where there is lots of geothermal activity, sputtering hot springs, and geysers:
This was Strokkur - a geyser that erupts about every 7 minutes:

And the final stop on the Golden Circle was Gulfoss (Gold Waterfall):

We had a beautiful drive to start off Saturday, up north from Reykjavik:

Then we stopped for a hike in a valley leading back to Glymur Falls - Matt took this shot looking back down the trail at Andrej and I:

That's me up on the cliff - Matt and Andrej disappeared into the caves and ended up way down below looking up - the exit from the caves is those big black circles you can sort of see in the picture:
That chasm with the mist is where Glmyur Falls is - we never quite made it all the way there:

Snorri's Pool, our next stop after the hike - Snorri was a famous medieval Icelandic historian, or so we read, and he had his own hot spring for a bath, and that passage led to his house, but it is also where he was supposedly murdered:

Right next to Hraunfossar Falls were the Children's Falls, where two children were swept to their death on Christmas Day:
The amazing thing was, we would be driving and have clear skies and clear roads (still cold, of course), but head a mile inland and have snow like this, it was wild:
